How to get rid of a brown spot / discolouration on the whites of the eye / sclera

A brown patched developed on my right eye when i was a teenager. I have no idea what caused it and over the years it never changed shape, size or colour. It never caused me any pain but i was always conscious of it and would usually turn to the side whenever taking a photo.

 So i visited a reputable ophthalmologist in Zimbabwe who explained that its like a harmless freckle that occurs more often in dark skinned people (kinda like an accumulation of melanin). Therefore he said it could be removed for cosmetic purposes. The doctor convinced me that its a minor procedure called Pterygectomy and flap or Pterygium surgery which has low risks. So at the age of 26 i finally had the USD $820 to pay for the procedure and medication. So i booked to have it done and on the 14th of December 2016 i went in for the procedure.
Upon arrival at the doctors surgery, the nurses applied some eye drops to numb my eye and gave me a pill to calm me down.

I then went into the procedure room, settled on the bed and was told to look as far left as possible.
The doctor injected me with a local anaesthetic, so i was awake the whole time. He then removed the brown patch and put in a dissolvable stitch. I could feel little pinches but nothing painful. He bandaged me up and i was done, it was so quick.
The nurses gave me pain killers and i bought the required antibiotic eye drops (to be used daily over six weeks).

They also explained what i could and could not do, such as;
1. Wear dark glasses that will give protection from the sun,
2. Follow directions on the use of the eye drops,
3. Avoid straining the eye and
4. Avoid rubbing the eye
I had my sister drive me home and along the way i bought lots of fruits to help in the healing process😊.
Later that day i felt some pain so i took some of the pain killers, slept and woke up better.
The next day i returned to the doctor for my review. He removed the bandage and explained that all was fine.

I rested for three days (being the 14th, 15th and 16th). From the 17th i was up and about but of course i tried my best not to strain the eye. I did not feel any pain just discomfort here and there, especially if i tried to look as far to the left as possible. I guess this was because of the stitch.
The eye was really red after the procedure, but by the 10th day it had cleared up.

Those close to me were supportive and i am VERY happy i had this done, as this has helped boost my confidence.
So far its been 11 months since the surgery and so far so good.
